Finistère
in English means 'end of the earth' or simply 'land's end.
It is the western-most region (department) of France.
Finistère
boasts many spectacular coastlines from the rock and rugged coasts
of the north, the sandy coves surrounded by rocky outcrops of the
Crozon penninsula, to the long sandy beaches of the south.
Finistère
is known as the bread basket of Brittany where more shallots,
cauliflower, artichokes and potatoes are produced than anywhere else
in France, and it goes without saying that there are more fish caught,
bought, and eaten than anywhere in France too!

Walled
City of Concarneau
For
shopaholics and lovers of architecture, Quimper is famous for its
pottery and fine gothic cathedral. The old walled city of Concarneau
is definitely worth a visit as it is full of lovely shops,
restaurants, and ice cream stalls.
The symbol of
Brittany is the l'hermine which sits a top the flag of Finistèe
and is the common symbol which adourns many other flags and plaques
of Brittany.
If you are
interested in the marine nature of Finistère then a visit to
Oceanopolis is paramount. Located in Brest, it boasts many beautiful
fish-filled tanks, sea mammal shows, and educational exhibits from
which kids and adults alike can benefit.
Just a few
kilometres from the mainland lies the island of Ouessant and the
Molène archipelag which are rich in wildlife with colonies of
grey seals, dolphins and numerous seabirds sqawking and filling the skies.
